The Gallery and Me
The Gallery is primarily designed to display the past and current art & functional works of DAVEY, an artist based in Washington, DC, whose current work takes shape in the form of ceramics, lighting and specialized tools.
Constantly adjusting to new environments as a child while relocating up and down the West Coast, I developed an intuitive sense for the new spaces I experienced so often. Always the outsider but quick to acclimate, my ability to adapt has both acted as a superpower and as insight into my wandering nature.
Dedicated to understanding, many of my forms have been the result of setting, curiosity and an inclination for deconstructing and rebuilding; learning and replicating by way of observation, then altering experiences with intentioned changes, be they drastic or subtle.
Almost exclusively self-taught, I have varied in design medium over the past 16 years, ranging from graphic t-shirt and website design, upcycled book lamps, furniture, ceramics, and a few things in between. The Gallery reveals to friends, an unsurprising reality, which is that anything in mine, can have meaning. How you encounter my work is important to me, whether that starts and finishes on this website today or continues in a more lasting way.
Understanding that everything is connected, in the sense that our perceptions are all constructs of our past experiences, the Gallery is an invitation to see the world from my perspective. My riddled descriptions often conflate condition with design, because to me they are deeply intertwined.
