The crater lamp body is thrown on the wheel with white stoneware, dryed to leather-hard, trimmed and bisque fired to cone 03. Three layers of black crater glaze were brushed onto the clay body after its bisque firing, which created a raised, delicate finish in the cone 5 glaze firing. Finally, a 22kt gold flake luster was applied to the twin shoulders before its third and final firing.

The 12in diameter shade was hand-assembled, using imported Japanese cotton fabric, brass banding, stryene material, and wire frames. The lamp stem, cap, and socket are constructed from unfinished brass, and is powered by a twisted, fabric-covered power cord.
