Textured Lamp No. 002

The latest in a series of slowly-evolving forms and aesthetic, No. 002 is the most completely handmade lamp created thus far. 

The textuterd lamp body was thrown on the wheel, with black stoneware, dryed to leather-hard, then textured during trim using hand tools and the wheel. A matte white glaze was sprayed onto the clay body after its bisque firing. The high amount of iron in the black clay body reacts with the white glaze to reveal an aged and oxidized matte surface. 

The 17in diameter shade was hand-assembled, using imported Japanese cotton fabric, stryene material, and wire frames. The lamp base, stem, cap, and socket are constructed from unfinished brass, and is powered by a twisted, fabric-covered power cord.
