The textuterd vessel bodies were thrown on the wheel with black stoneware, dryed to leather-hard, then textured during trim using hand tools and the wheel. The textured surface is created using hundreds of random yet intentioned taps with a drag tool. The tool’s handle is held parallel to the spinning wheel head, at varying speeds.

This trim process is performed on both the left and right side of the body, alternating with the reverse and forward motion of the wheel head. Alternating in this way creates elongated and seemingly organic grooves that neither start nor finish at one end or the other. These grooves are accentuated by burnishing the ridges, then by applying a sandy-colored glaze, revealing a gradient and shadows along the surface of the clay body.
